We spent Friday morning at the Corrie Ten Boom house in Haarlem. The Ten Boom's were a Christian family who helped Jews go underground during WWII. If you've never read The Hiding Place, you need to. It's Corrie's story. In short, they'd take in Jewish families for a time and help connect them with others or help them get out of the city for hiding. They did end up taking in 6 people for a longer period of time. They were eventually betrayed and were taken into custody. Corrie and her sister Betsie were sent to a women's concentration camp called Ravensbruck, near Berlin. Betsie died from the harsh conditions. Corrie survived and went on to travel the world, sharing about the hope of Christ and forgiveness. It was a really neat experience to visit the Ten Boom home and see the way God was glorified through their lives. It was also neat to visit the home on Good Friday - a day we spend thinking about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. The Ten Boom's made countless sacrifices as well to many Jewish families and were a testimony of God's love to their neighbors.
