Eschwege, Germany

The Wartburg Castle, near Eisenach, Germany
This past weekend, I went to the Wartburg Castle with some friends during our free day at our CSM staff conference. After Luther was declared a heretic at the Diet of Worms, the Duke of Saxony had him kidnapped and brought to the castle for safety. It was here that Luther hid out for 10 months and translated the Bible into German for the average reader.

Eisenach is also the birthplace of Bach.

I also had an opportunity to go to a museum - an old check point along what used to be the border separating Eastern and Western Germany, following WWII.
^This was a DDR marker (Deutsch Democratic Republic - the Americans called it GDR (G=German), it was the Eastern German side.

The area around the house we rented for the week, was really pretty. There were lots of wide open fields, with blooming flowers and blossoming trees. There were hiking paths all throughout the area. We were super blessed with sunny weather all week - with the exception of the free day.
