We took high schoolers to Darmstadt yesterday for a welcome to summer vacation day! Check out the key club!
Here's a few pictures of our sight seeing...
Frankenstein Castle, near Darmstadt, Germany
^ Courtyard ruins
^ Inside the courtyard with stairs leading up to the tower
^ The tower
^ From inside the tower, looking out - it was a beautiful view!
^ Another tower view, being guarded by finger darters. : )
^ A view of the bell tower, from the other guard tower. We couldn't go into this one, but the levels look really cool. There's a small chapel to the right of the tower (pictured here), there was a wedding going on inside.
Before going to the castle, we walked around Darmstadt. We saw a really cool Russian church, the last Russian Czar married a girl from Darmstadt and had cool buildings built in the city for her.
We also found a pretty cool Catholic church modeled after the Parthenon in Rome. The dome was cool and had the all seeing eye at the center of it. If you stood in the center of the sanctuary, you could clap or make weird sounds and it would echo in the dome - thankfully we were the only ones there and didn't annoy anyone!
